It was a great kick off to MiniFTOPS XXIII as the opening events drew a huge number of players and created massive prizepools. There were only two tournaments on the opening day, but they combined for more than 16,000 entrants and $350,000 in prize money for very small buy-ins.
Event #1 was a $22 re-entry tournament where players could buy back in up to five times during the late registration period. Some 13,049 entrants later and the prizepool stood at an impressive $260,980 with the winner getting over $40,000.
It took 10 hours for them to play down to the final table and poker pro Jason “NovaSky” Koon was the biggest name among them but it was ChrisStar887 who had the starring role.
It didn’t take long for the first bad beat at the final table. ChrisStar887 called a min-raise from the big blind and then called the all-in of timo23eule with a flopped middle pair of sixes against top pair Aces. The unkind six on the turn sent timo23eule packing first.
ChrisStar887 then took a huge chiplead by knocking out ace_rothstein21 in 8th place with Aces versus King to hold a stack three times the size of second in chips. In the end, he dispatched all but two of those at the final table and with huge hands to win MiniFTOPS XXIII Event #1 and $40,274.
